LAS VEGAS – Iconic recording artists Carole King and James Taylor announced additional North American dates for the highly anticipated “Troubadour Reunion” tour which features a stop at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday, July 17. This once-in-a-lifetime, intimate, in-the-round performance will bring two of the most beloved singer/songwriters together on tour for the first time in four decades. The concert is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets priced at $125, $85 and $55, not including applicable service charges and taxes, go on sale Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m. and will be sold at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
The idea for the tour was conceived after a series of six performances by King and Taylor at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in 2007 to celebrate the famed venue’s 50th anniversary. The shows sold out immediately and garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Joining King and Taylor on this tour will be their original bandmates including guitarist Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as “The Section.” Also accompanying “The Section” will be Rudy Guess, Robbie Kondor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz and Andrea Zonn.
In 1971, King gave us the landmark album Tapestry. The album received a Diamond Award from the RIAA for sales of more than 10 million units in the United States along with more than 25 million units sold worldwide. King was the first woman to win four GRAMMY® Awards in one year (1972 for Best Album, Best Song, Best Record and Best Vocal Performance), a feat unsurpassed for more than 25 years. In 1987, King was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and later honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988. She also was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and honored by The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 2004 with the GRAMMY® Trustees’ Award. To date, more than 400 King compositions have been recorded by more than 1,000 artists, resulting in more than 100 hit singles. She is arguably the most successful and revered female songwriter in pop music history, having released 25 solo albums.
Over the course of his career, Taylor has sold more than 40 million albums and won more than 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, as well as five GRAMMYs®. Taylor’s first Greatest Hits album earned him the RIAA’s elite Diamond Award, handed out to musicians who sell more than 10 million units in the United States. In 2000, Taylor was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences named Taylor its MUSICARES Person of the Year in February 2006. Taylor’s One Man Band (2007) album was nominated for an Emmy and his most recent album, Covers, was nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards in 2008. He most recently released Other Covers in April 2009.
Fans also will have the opportunity to purchase ‘VIP Stage Seats’ which will be arranged in tables of two surrounding the stage while presenting a unique concert experience. The idea for the VIP seating grew from King and Taylor’s desire to create an extraordinary ‘venue within a venue,’ or a club-like setting replicating the intimacy of the duo’s legendary Troubadour performances amidst the excitement of an arena performance. Fans can purchase these VIP seats and charity packages by visiting www.ticketsforcharity.com exclusively, or by calling Tickets-for-Charity at (866) 567-4576.
Proceeds from the sale of these tickets will benefit both national and local charities from each of the cities visited on the tour as well as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Alliance for the Wild Rockies. These are two of the environmental organizations that King and Taylor have championed for years.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is home to concerts, championship boxing and premier sporting and special events. The Arena offers comfortable seating for as many as 16,800 with excellent sightlines and state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and sound. Prominent events to date have included world championship fights between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson as well as Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather and George Foreman vs. Michael Moorer; and concerts by The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bette Midler, Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, Sting, Jimmy Buffett and the Barbra Streisand Millennium Concert.
